The TGC detector for the ATLAS experiment was transported from CERN to Nagoya

At the ATLAS experiment at CERN, a new type of detector called the New Small Wheel (NSW) was introduced in 2021 and the previously used FI-type Thin Gap Chamber (TGC) in the inner layer has completed its role.

On August 2, 2022, two pieces of the FI-type TGC detector were brought into our laboratory at Nagoya University. They will be re-cycled for the verification test of the electronic circuits being developed for the data acquisition period starting from 2029 (Run 4). In addition, by taking advantage of the large-area and fast-response features of the detector, we plan to conduct a study to utilize it for muon imaging.

Undergraduate students are welcome to visit to see the detector. If you are interested, please contact us with the following e-mail address.
